THE LEFT EAR
In the spring of 2020, during my fourth year at The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for my capstone course - English 430: Publication Development - I completed a Acquisitions Proposal and Market Analysis for a proposed book. The book that I imagined was a non-fiction title, The Left Ear, pitched to Harmony Books, an imprint of Crown Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House.
In my Acquisitions Proposal and Market Analysis for The Left Ear, I cover a number of important content and conceptual stages for the proposed book. These include book production details (extent, paper, binding, price, BISAC Categorization, release date, print run), book development details (foreword candidates, conceptual background, author(s) biography, author(s) vision statement, analysis of audience, content summary), and market analysis (key selling points, analysis of genre, analysis of online/in-store market, preview of publisher, analysis of imprint presence).
The concept for the contents of the proposed book originate from The Left Ear podcast (2019) produced by SpokeMedia in collaborative creation with actress and feminist activist Dakota Johnson. My proposed book, The Left Ear, functions as an introduction into non-judgmental listening and is a space of refuge and healing for the survivors who decided call an anonymous phone mail-box to share their stories of sexual assault, abuse, and harassment.
