UW-W MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

From September 2019 to May 2020, I worked as a Student Marketing Assistant through the University Marketing and Communications (UMC) department at The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater acknowledges students for their academic, athletic, and extracurricular achievements throughout the entire academic year through an online platform called Merit. Students are awarded what is called a Merit Badge that is displayed on their own personal Merit profile as a part of their interactive, online resume. Through the UMC department at UW-Whitewater, I was tasked with creating press releases that were sent to student’ hometown newspapers, high schools, state legislators, and were available for use on social media platforms. Production of the content for these press releases required proficient understanding of the UMC department's use of AP Style. Through collaboration and consistent communication with faculty and staff, I was able to produce passionate stories that presented accurate and concise information on the organization, department, event, or role that individuals were being recognized for. I was taken on by UW-Whitewater’s UMC department as a remote employee which strengthened my organization skills as I was self-managed and tasked with meeting certain goals and deadlines.

Both independently and on the UMC team, UW-Whitewater students’ success were honored and represented far beyond the campus community.
